Adidas wraps up 2017 strongly with the release of the Prophere, a supersized chunk of shoe that takes inspiration from the Trefoil 90s line of sneakers, much like the EQT ADV series that’s reiterated from the standard EQT series.
Highlights of the shoe include a chunky sculpted midsole, oversized raw leather heel cage, a soft one-piece knit upper, and a rubber outsole complete the look. Adidas have opted to use polyurethane instead of EVA for the midsole, most probably for longevity purposes. The heel tab is reminiscent of the one found on the Adidas Ultraboost.
Nic Galway, Adidas Originals SVP of Global Design had this to say, “With Prophere we wanted to take a different view of our archive and looked to the unapologetic aesthetic of the 90s, when the brand experimented with bold silhouettes. With this one, we connect the same energy of the nineties with the new generation.”
Overall, the design has a very futuristic look to it; the heavily sculpted midsole looks as if it was a 3D printed item, melding inspiration from the 90s and transports it into the present future. We think it’s a fairly good addition to boost the entry-level sneaker side.
If basic is not your taste, Undefeated already has a collaboration released with the new silhouette, prominently featuring camouflage patterns on the upper and blacked out midsole. The collaboration model will get a pre-release on the 16th Dec, and a general release on the 23rd.
So my fellow boys and girls, what do you think of the new design? Love it or hate it? Tell us in the comments below!
