Today we are blessed with good news as KL-based post rock outfit Dirgahayu will be raising the Jalur Gemilang up high at the SXSW festival next year.

SXSW is an annual music festival in Austin, Texas. Originally called South by South West, SXSW has a decent history in bringing the best talents around the world with the alumni lineup of  The Drums, Temples, Alvvays, Courtney Barnett, Best Coast, .Anderson Paak, Migos, and Fetty Wap. This year, Dirgahayu will share the stage with other Asian representatives, mainly Rich Chigga and Keith Ape.

The instrumental three-piece isn’t the first Malaysian to grace the SXSW stage. Sarawakian-born singer Zee Avi, rapper Altimet and singer Yuna also experienced the same heat. After the successful Commerate! album, I’d say that the boys deserve this spot to fret their skills.

Dirgahayu, which is a combination of Akta Angkasa and Custom Daisy, consists of Wan Azry, Afifi Rahim, and Zulhezan. The band just got back from Sarawak for the Rocktoberfest, which they performed together with a special guest – Jimmy from OhChentaku. Rumor has it, Jimmy might join up with the trio, or at least stand in as a sessionist for future shows.

Make us proud, Dirgahayu!
