Did you know EPL legends Paul Scholes and Robbie Fowler came to Malaysia this past weekend? It would be too bad if you didn’t. They were at Resorts World Genting for the closing of Genting Football Fever 2018. Both of them were welcomed invitingly by their Malaysian fans who queued for as long as 3 HOURS prior to the ‘Meet the Fans’ session. As a longtime Manchester United fan myself, I was fortunate to have the privilege to skip the queueing, on top of that, get the opportunity to be in the same room as the legend.
Genting Football Fever 2018 celebrates the world’s most loved sports, kickstarting the festivities with football legend Michael Owen making an appearance during the opening of the games where a ‘Meet & Greet’ session, a football clinic and Opening Match Viewing Party was held.
The former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler and former Manchester United midfielder hosted the ‘Meet the Fans’ and autograph session this past Saturday. First timer at Genting Highlands, Paul Scholes, was delighted to be here, saying “It’s great to be here and meet the fans”. When asked what the outcome would be for the finals he chuckled, “That’s very difficult, but I fancy France. Kylian Mbappe has been sensational, we know he’s the threat for France, but I think it will be a really tight game, but if there’s going to be any differences it will come from Mbappe”.
Fowler on the other had a different opinion, “France may be one of the standout teams in the tournament but I wouldn’t be surprised if Croatia had won. I think the Croatia squad, what they have done to achieve where they are now, that tells you they have a winning mentality, so I’d go with Croatia”.
But we all know who was right in the end eh?
Paul Scholes and Robbie Fowler continued to spend the weekend in Genting to watch the Third-Place Match viewing on Saturday at the Genting International Showroom (GISR) and the Finals on Sunday at the Arena of the Stars. I bet it was a super special, unforgettable experience for fans who were there at Resorts World Genting to watch the matches with the legends.
