The Forever Summer Beach Festival featuring Emma Hewitt that was due to be held at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach this Saturday (30th April 2016) has been cancelled, according to one of the organizers.

The festival, which had already been granted a permit, saw the authorities pull their support from the event at the last minute after complaints and alleged “pressure from political parties and other relevant organizations”. Even though the festival was restricted to patrons aged 18 and above, and had restricted alcohol zones for non-Muslims, it seems this was not enough to appease the forces aligned against the festival.

The festival’s headliner, Emma Hewitt, is already on the way to Malaysia and the organizers are now trying to find a suitable replacement venue for ticket holders. Several events have been cancelled in similar fashion over the last year, including Heineken’s Thirst: We are all Stardust 2015 and a concert by US metal band Lamb of God.

More updates to come.
