So, the year is ending in a few days and I’m so done with this year. 2016 has claimed a couple of victims in the space between Christmas and NYE, so I’m making all the bad feels go away by indulging in some retail therapy. I mean, there’s that one meme, right?
Needless to say, with 2017 coming – I think it’s time for me to repent for my past sins: sleeping in my makeup, forgetting to remove my contacts before bed, being a lazy b*tch when it comes to taking care of myself, and all that. I came to the terrifying realisation that I am about two years away from my mid-twenties, and well:
Also I am at that weird mid-point where I’m developing fine lines and still getting acne, so there’s that. I’m not into this. Make it stop.
Lovemore Platinum Eye Whitening Patch (RM19.50 for a box of 5 sets)
Right, so as a perpetual insomniac – I have panda eyes. At certain points, they look like I’ve been punched in the face. I don’t pull off zombie panda that well, so I picked up these eye patches from Taiwanese brand Lovemore. I’ve pulled the description off the site:
Claims & Star Ingredients:
- Luminizing – Platinum Extract & Diamond Powder
- Deep Whitening – Snow Lotus & Transamin
- Anti-Aging – Vitamin E & Vitamin K
They’re hydrogel patches, so as someone with long nails – I had to be really careful about taking the patches out of the packaging. Also, they win bonus points for hygienic packaging. That aside, they tingled a little and I really enjoyed the cooling sensation. I haven’t seen any significant fading but they’re good for a pick me up!

Okay, it was on sale for RM59.90. A full RM40 cheaper than usual and it was a value pack. Given my success with the 24K Bio-Gold Water (and my sister’s nudging), I figured I’d pick this up. 15g isn’t a lot of product by any means, and at least I can say I tried it.
The full sized 40g is RM99.90 a jar, which I couldn’t justify to myself. The reviews looked pretty good though, and this Singaporean brand is pretty well-known. It couldn’t hurt to try?

Right, so good news or bad news first? I’ll pick for you, good feels before sad feels. On the plus side, I’ve noticed a definite brightening effect to my skin over the last week or so but on the down side, it’s not as moisturising as I thought it’d be. The day cream has platinum and SPF25 but it’s not broad spectrum, so it doesn’t fit my needs. The night cream contains gold flakes which feel very luxe but again, not super moisturising unless I use all my steps and an occlusive sleeping mask on top.

The water based gel features the newly added PA++++, delivering superior UVA protection. It applies like water, leaving skin feeling fresh, clean, and smooth. The sunscreen is formulated with 86% moisturising ingredients that includes 3 types of hyaluronic acid and 3 antioxidants.
- For face and body
- Doubles as a makeup base
- Removable with face wash
Sunscreen: the most potent weapon you have in your arsenal to stop aging. The sunscreen you get in your moisturizer isn’t enough by way of protection (you need at least ¼ of a teaspoon for your whole face), and sunscreen needs to protect against both UVA and UVB rays. SPF only protects against UVB (which cause burning) and it’s the PA rating (read more about it here) that protects you from nasty things like skin cancer.
That being said, this is an essence type sunscreen – meaning it doesn’t feel like your traditional sunscreens. The Sunkiller Perfect Water Essence is similar to the much lauded Biore Watery Essence – but without alcohol. I liked it because it absorbed a lot faster than the Biore, doesn’t pill under my makeup and can double as a makeup base on my rushed days.
The PA rating is the highest available and an SPF of 50 makes me feel much better when I’m making my walks towards lunch in Malaysia’s blistering sunshine. Now if only I could find a good body sunscreen…
5/5 firework emojis!
- Solid to liquid formula melts at your touch and glides over skin
- Uneven skin textures are covered and smoothed
- Sponge applicator concealed in lid
- Foundation with full coverage for a miracle smooth finish
I skipped out on my family’s Bali trip to help put together the office, but my sister came home with goodies for me. Does it count if I didn’t buy it? Well, whatever. I have it.
The Max Factor foundation is a cream foundation that comes in this little twist-off jar and a sponge included. I like how the sponge is dense enough to give me that full coverage look for some full-on glam and it sure as hell takes less time than applying with a brush. I have acne-prone skin with a ton of hyperpigmentation, but with this? It’s pretty much hidden!
My only beef with this foundation is that it’s not quite my skin tone. I mean, I already have issues with most drugstore foundations (and tinted moisturizers. And any/all base products) because I’m usually too warm-toned to find an exact match, but hey. I get that Korean bright face look? #lookingforthebrightside

What are your 2017 beauty resolutions? Do you have anything for me to try?
