The Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017) torch run has been going around Malaysia to promote the upcoming 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games. The run has been receiving good response and involvement from the locals throughout the country; hitting Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Labuan, and Sabah so far and will be anticipated by others states as well!
Last weekend, the climb up to Mount Kinabalu was led by our Youth and Sports Minister, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, accompanied by 24 individuals for a distance of 4,095.2 metres. Many other climbers, guides and rangers bumped into Khairy along the way up, obliging photographs and handshakes.
“Rimau”, the SEA Games mascot this year, also climbed and was backed by a team of mountain guides from the Mt Kinabalu Park as well as the team from the Fire and Rescue Department’s Mount Search and Rescue (MOSAR).
Khairy said that the torch run up the mountain was a challenging one for him personally as he did it during the fasting month.
He also said that the climb was significant for the team to climb up the mountain last weekend, as it has been two years since the earthquake tragedy in Sabah that took claimed several lives. He later met the family members of the victims at Laban Rata to together remember the victims of the tragedy.
We are as excited as you are to watch and attend the Games that are going to happen soon in Kuala Lumpur from August 19 to 30, and the 9th ASEAN Pata Games from Sept 17 to 23. So be sure to keep yourself updated with the schedules and ticketing!
