Close to 1000 adrenaline junkies witnessed three Malaysian titans – I Lost The Plot, Budak Nakal Hujung Simpang and Lukarts – battle their hearts out for a precious spot on the final House of Vans’ Asia tour leg in China. After careful evaluation by three experienced judges starting with Alijo from Killeur Calculateur, Takahara Suiko from The Venopian Solitude and Adly Syairi, Lukarts emerged as the worthy champion of the night.
Lukarts, popular for their hit ‘Mata-hari’, have been around since 2013 while stage-sharing alongside the likes of OAG, Ning Baizura and Bunkface. The band will be joining a star-studded lineup in Guangzhou, though the list is yet to be officially released. I Lost The Plot and Budak Nakal Hujung Simpang also showed a lot of promise and only fell short in minor factors.
Vans turned the APW space in Bangsar into their own playground as the footwear brand hosted the annual House of Vans tour near the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The event included various activities including Stoop Series Skateboard Contest, Authentic Exhibition; A Vans heritage exhibition by the Skateboard Museum Berlin and art workshops Silkscreen Workshop by Dirty Donuts and Embroidery Workshop by Anni Tai.
Indie rock royalty Hujan, post-rock outfit Dirgahayu and Helly Kelly singer Zamaera closed the curtains and stirred the crowd up as the night ended with a (head)bang.
Congratulations Lukarts for the top spot and we hope you’ll fly our flag with pride in China. Malaysia boleh!
