Finally, a Japanese man has created the dream of a thousand model kit enthusiasts – a real life Gundam! Masaaki Nagumo, a Japanese engineer, acheived his childhood dream by building a 8.5 meter, 7 ton giant robot. Even better, the machine actually works and you can even pilot it! It can be controlled from the inside and the way to enter the robot is just the same as the anime. Gundam is one of the classic mecha (robot) anime that popularized the genre, and most of us have at least seen one season of the series. The futuristic style, the out-of-Earth fights and spaceships floating in space are just amazing.
Sakakibara Kikai is where the machines and robots are developed and few of Masaaki Nagumo’s machines are available for rent at the price of 100,000 yen (about RM3600) per hour for all sorts of events. The robots may not move as smoothly as the anime but it is still impressive enough to leave people’s jaws hanging. By the way, the robot can even fire sponge balls at 140 kilometer per hour from its right arm!
“As an anime-inspired robot that one can ride, I think this is the biggest in the world” Nagumo
