Stop the presses.

There might actually be a good reason as to why Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks in the 2017 Power Rangers movie, looks nothing like her original counterpart from the TV series in the 90’s.

A fan theory, which began circulating when we got our first look of Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, claims that Rita Repulsa in the new Power Rangers movie might actually be a “fallen” Power Ranger – more specifically, The Green Ranger. Check out the image below:

The newly released image of the Power Rangers’ suits in the upcoming film, when placed side-by-side (and re-colored green for ease of comparison) with an on-set image of Banks in costume, reveals a striking similarity between the costume designs. This is most certainly not an accident.

This discovery has left fans of the series expanding on the original fan theory, with some even boldly suggesting that the upcoming Power Rangers movie might be a prequel to the original TV series of the 90’s. This might explain how she is capable of imbuing Tommy Oliver with the powers to become the Green Ranger in the original TV series.

Regardless of whether the fan theory proves to be true or not, this certainly makes the upcoming movie a whole lot more interesting.
