Last weekend, our friends at Red Bull International were kind enough to invite us over to The Pawn Room, a cozy speakeasy in TTDI with a very distinct Oriental theme to its decor & layout.

We were invited to try their latest creation in a line of Red Bull-infused drinks & cocktails, aptly named the Elixir of Life – and it lived up to the high standards associated with all things Red Bull.

A gin-based cocktail containing coconut water, kaffir lime syrup, lemon juice, and Red Bull, the Elixir of Life is served over dry ice and garnished with mint, kaffir lime leaves, and lemon skin.

The first thing that struck us when we saw the drink was its presentation. Keeping to the Oriental theme of The Pawn Room, the Elixir of Life’s ingredients were presented to us in separate teapots and containers. Part of the drink’s experience involved having the patron mix the ingredients together, triggering the dry ice for a smokey effect. There’s honestly something (oddly) satisfying about consuming a drink you had a hand in making.

The flavors of the ingredients blended together very well, making the Elixir of Life a surprisingly refreshing experience overall. The reaction of the dry ice with the Elixir of Life ensured the drink was well mixed, and it stayed cold throughout our experience. The cold temperature when served definitely played a part in the experience – not many people enjoy their alcohol warm.

Red Bull was also kind enough to provide us with the recipe to the Elixir of Life – should any of us want to try our hands at making it at home (I know I’m giving it a shot over the weekend):

45ml Gin

60ml Coconut Water

20ml Kaffir Lime Syrup

 5ml Lemon Juice

Topped up with Red Bull

Garnished with Mint, Kaffir Lime Leaves, & Lemon Skin

Or, when all else fails, you could always visit the Pawn Room to try the drink for yourself:
