The Birkenstocks College Students Never Knew They Needed

You can thank your lucky stars that Rick Owens’ partnership with Adidas has come to an end, because he’s taken a surprising turn to collaborate with college kids’ favourite slipper brand, Birkenstock.

Not his usual fair, but Owens’ hands in the recreation of three classic silhouettes using felt, full-grain leather and pony hair could prove to be tasteful.

The collaboration is a part of a campaign by Birkenstock, which includes a travelling pop-up space that will be parked outside the Rick Owens’ store in La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles on the 16th of March, stocking up on not just footwear, but also ready-to-wear, accessories and furniture. You know, you need your furniture to complement your pony haired slippers, you feel?

Oliver Reichert, Chief Executive of Birkenstock had this to say about the collaboration, “Just a fashion designer would be less relevant,” where this collaboration is fitting because, ”Rick Owens however, is different. We collaborated in architecture, design and fashion.”

 

While there is no pricing revealed for the slippers, the collaboration will open pre-orders on the 1st of March and available for purchase from Rick Owens and Birkenstock on the 15th of March. You ready to drop some serious dinero on these? Or just wait for a Taobao copy to pop up?
