As announced recently, ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) and Intel are the official sponsors for Garena Student Alliance (GSA) Championship, a countrywide university eSports tournament with partial scholarships amounting to RM62,000 up for the taking later this year in November.
With this partnership, one can look forward to Malaysia being represented by one top League of Legends teams for the Join The Republic: Community Challenge in Stockholm, Sweden held in early 2018. At the prestigious global stage, Malaysia will be pitted against other dominant countries such as Spain, United States, China, South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan.
Thirty-two universities from across Malaysia will be competing in two main events in the GSA Championship, namely League of Legends and EA Sports FIFA Online 3 (FO3). However, each university can only register up to four teams for League of Legends and 16 individuals for FO3.
“There is a lot at stake for the students as the overall champions will walk away with a cash prize and partial scholarships to pursue their studies.
“Our primary objective is to educate the students through hands-on experience and hope the Malaysian campus scene becomes the pioneer region for Southeast Asia,” said Chun Jan Bong, GSA Coordinator.
