There it is folks, GE14 happened, where youth came out and fully utilised their rights to get what they want: a fresh new government. The events of this historic day can easily top off Liverpool’s emotional Istanbul turnaround in 2004, and an event this iconic needs a proper soundtrack or playlist to accompany its gloriousness.
Luckily, Spotify has a playlist for almost everything – so you know they will not miss out on one of the most shocking turnarounds in recent times. The best part about the playlist is that Spotify curators were very attentive to the details: they even selected songs to describe different parts of the whole event.
The obvious first choice of the playlist, ‘Standing In The Eyes of the World’ covered by VE, Too Phat, Ruffedge, KRU, Shazzy, Phlowtron and queen Ella herself is probably the official anthem for GE14, as even Pakatan Harapan picked the song to be played right before Mahathir’s speech on the night before the elections. But what cracked me up the most is the inclusion of Chantal Krevaziuk’s ‘Leaving On A Jet Plane’ that is frankly dedicated to You-Know-Who when he conveniently decided to fly to Jakarta for a so-called ‘vacation’ while he’s currently involved in an ongoing investigation for his crimes. Gwen Stefani’s ‘4 In The Morning’ was obviously for the time that we had to wait until the wee hours for the SPR to finish counting all the votes.
Check out the whole playlist below because the curator deserves a medal:
