China’s Team Newbee won sweet vindication as they stood onstage at ESL One Genting 2017, having vanquished the conquerors who took them down in the exciting finals of The International 2017, Europe’s Team Liquid. In the journey to their fated showdown, Team Newbee and Team Liquid faced off twice in the group stages, conceding a win apiece to each other before finally meeting at the finals of ESL One Genting 2018, ending Team Newbee’s four-year losing streak against the European team.

At the press conference, when asked about their feelings about finally beating Team Liquid at a Grand Finals, “It feels really good because before we would always lose to them. It’s a confidence boost.” – Team Newbee

With the victory, Team Newbee has secured 200 Qualifying Points, and Song “Sccc” Chun, Xu “Moogy” Han, Damien “Kpii” Chok, Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi and Zeng “Faith” Hongda must be elated with the game-winning play in the Roshan pits that saw them trump Team Liquid on route to winning the best of five series with three wins. This is the second major tournament win for China in 2018, and perhaps points at another showcase year for the Middle Kingdom. They’re currently 4th place in the global standings and look poised to continue the trend to represent China in The International 2018.
