If you’re in the KPOP business, Kuala Lumpur is an ideal city for you to stop by for a fan meet. Malaysians can guarantee you KPOP fans, worshippers, good food and a ball of time – and that’s what Seoul-based KPOP group WANNA ONE was expected to receive, but maybe, the warm welcome got a bit too heaty, and sadly not because of Malaysia’s tropical climate.

If you’re new to the KPOP scene, WANNA ONE is currently one of the hottest Korean boy band groups ever since its formation in 2017 through the hit series Produce 101. The survival-based competition hosted 101 contestants and after fan-votes, the number decreased to 11, which is the final 11 members of WANNA ONE who just visited Malaysia a couple of days ago. WANNA ONE’s overnight success drew out many KPOP fans as even veteran fans (of Girls Generation and Big Bang) were ecstatic to greet at the grand fan-meeting which was held at Stadium Negara.

However, WANNA ONE’s Malaysian adventure turned sour when the concert was forced to be halted not long after it began. According to many witnesses, including a fan by the name of Syikin, a lot of ‘pushing’ was involved and that one of the members, Sungwoon, noticed that a few of the fans fainted (a thread):

WANNA ONE members were sent backstage for safety reasons which is why the paramedics had to come out and attend to fans who had fainted and some who were even injured due to the push and shove.

Malaysian police warned the crowd that if the rowdiness continued, the fan-meet might get canceled to ensure everyone’s safety. Roars and boos were heard and directed to the people at the Rock Zone, where the incident occurred as fans in other sections were not happy with the behaviors of those in front of the stage.

Luckily after more than an hour of waiting, the Malaysian police decided to allow the organisers to go on with the show. To guarantee that the incident will not repeat itself, the audience at the Rock Zone was forced to sit down throughout the show.

The show continued without any interruption as the boys demonstrated their singing and dancing skills by performing their hits ‘Beautiful’, ‘Never’, ‘Burn’, and “Energetic’ to name a few.

There are rumors that WANNA ONE may be back in Malaysia for their final tour before the band members part ways as a part of a World Tour that may included Indonesia and the Philippines as well but after this debacle and Sungwoon’s obvious dissatisfaction towards the incident that happened during the fan-meeting, we wouldn’t want fans to get their hopes up on another full round of WANNA ONE loving.
